The KAIZEN™ Award North America recognizes organizations that implement Lean and KAIZEN™ practices of excellence. The best companies will be awarded for their outstanding, innovative, and effective implementation of KAIZEN™ principles and practices.

Categories

Category 1 – Digital & Smart Operations

In an era where digital innovation is paramount, the Digital & Smart Operations category celebrates organizations leading the way in digital transformation. It highlights achievements in integrating advanced technologies like AI, IoT, machine learning, and data analytics into operational processes, thereby enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Entrants in this category demonstrate not just technological adoption but also how these digital solutions have significantly improved their operations and customer experience.
The Digital and Smart Operations Award acknowledges organizations that have effectively harnessed the power of digital tools to transform traditional operational models, avoiding waste automation. Whether automating processes, optimizing supply chains, or employing data analytics for better decision-making, this category recognizes the pioneers setting new standards in digital operations.

Category 2 – Operational Excellence

Higher costs, more demanding consumers, increased competition, and an ever-changing environment are some of the circumstances companies face on a daily basis.
To achieve operational excellence and success, organizations have to direct their efforts on maximizing operations performance and securing efficiency in terms of productivity, quality, and cost reduction. It also involves preparing themselves to respond to shifting market conditions and consumer demands.
This category encompasses projects that accomplished better effectiveness levels, simplified processes, and lead time reduction, among others.

Category 3 – Continuous Improvement

This category promotes corporate cultural change projects that demonstrate a continuous effort in the practice of continuous improvement, and that lead to better results, using effective training methods (tools), frequent practice (every day), and highly motivating.
Improvement activities must be aligned with the business strategy, and projects must be executed with multidisciplinary teams so that they can be sustained by the natural teams. All people from all hierarchical levels of the organization must be involved

Category 4 – Lean Project & Construction Management

The Lean Project & Construction Management category acknowledges organizations that have effectively applied lean principles to the construction industry. It recognizes achievements in minimizing waste, optimizing resources, and enhancing value in construction projects. Some of the methodologies used include the stage-gate model.
Entrants in this category should demonstrate how they have applied lean thinking to streamline construction processes, improve project delivery times, and increase overall project value. It is about acknowledging those who have challenged traditional construction norms and have successfully implemented lean strategies C6to bring about tangible improvements in project outcomes.

Category 5 – Lean 6 Sigma Award

The Lean 6 Sigma category acknowledges organizations that have achieved excellence in process improvement and quality management. It focuses on companies that have successfully implemented Six Sigma methodologies to reduce defects, improve quality, and enhance customer satisfaction. Entrants should demonstrate how their Six Sigma initiatives have led to significant improvements in efficiency and performance.
Highlighting quality and effectiveness, the successful Six Sigma projects had a profound impact on business outcomes. It is a tribute to statistical excellence, methodical process improvements, and relentless focus on quality, setting these organizations apart in their respective industries.

The period for submitting applications for the 2025 edition is now open!

  • Projects conducted within the USA and Canada, concluded within the last two years.
  • Candidate projects may have received other awards.
  • Projects already acknowledged in previous editions of the KAIZEN Awards will not be accepted.
  • Further information about the project can be added (e.g. indicators, pictures, videos).
  • To finalize the application, the form must be completed and submitted to awards-us@kaizen.com by April 30, 2025.

Evaluation

  • The jury is made up of Kaizen Institute members and partner entities.
  • If the jury considers that the project does not fit the category for which it has been submitted, it may, with the consent of the candidate, reassign the project to another category.
  • The initial application analysis is based on the application form. A company visit may be carried out for applications moving to the second stage.
  • The criteria for analyzing and selecting projects include several elements such as actions implemented, the improvement methodology used, and the results achieved.
  • The jury will select the laureates from each category. In addition, the jury reserves the right not to award prizes if it considers that none of the entries meets the minimum requirements of the established criteria.
